The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) is the Smithsonian museum devoted to the study, exhibition and documentation of African American history and culture. The Fellowship Program Administrator position is located in the Office of Curatorial Affairs, reports to the Chief Curator, and is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.  The incumbent will administer the Museum’s Fellowship and Intern Programs.

Identification, recruitment, and program management will be among the major duties assigned to this position.  In addition, the incumbent will collaborate with the Fellowship and Internship Review Committee through meetings, conferences, and written reports to optimize funding and keep awards within budget.  The incumbent will also develop and arrange professional training programs, seminars, group activities, and social functions for NMAAHC’s Fellows and Interns.

REQUIREMENTS

This position requires knowledge of African American history and culture and administration of Fellowship and Internship programs. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to communicate orally with staff, senior leaders, and exchange information with a diverse array of students and scholars.  The applicant must be able to effectively communicate in writing, develop guidelines/standard operating procedures, and prepare various forms of correspondence. The applicant must also be skilled in developing, planning, and administering educational programs using automated systems, computer programs and software for web page design, and in basic administrative and budgetary programs.
