This is a benefit offered to WCG members who do not have access to this through their work. This fit test program is intended for individuals who are self-employed or who do not have respiratory protection program provided through their employer.  OSHA regulations state that if you perform work that requires the use of a respirator that your employer must provide the appropriate respiratory protection, medical evaluation, training, information and fit testing.  Your employer is best suited to provide site-specific training on the hazards in your workplace, should be aware that you are using (or want to use) a respirator, and needs to try to remove the hazards before respirator use is required. Please check with your employer before registering. This is a 3-part process:

March 7, 3-4 pmLecture – General information on care, maintenance and proper use. The critical element is selecting and using the right type of respirator and filter/cartridge to abate the specific chemical or particulate hazards a conservator is faced with.  Recommendations for making these assessments (local industrial hygiene/safety services; respirator vendor resources) will be discussed.

March 7, 4-7 pm – Individual Fit-Testing Appointments – Conducted by Certified Industrial Hygienists, in accordance with OSHA protocols. When you RSVP, you can sign up for an individual time slot. If you own a respirator already, please bring it. Do not purchase a respirator for this fit-test. A selection of half-mask respirator models and sizes will be available for attendee to try during the fit-test.

Medical Clearance (On your own, required before March 7) – Certification from your health provider that you are medically cleared to wear a respirator (forms and instructions are available below); scheduling with your health care provider is your responsibility.

Space is limited, so RSVP as soon as possible to RSVP@washingtonconservationguild.org. Include your name, your institution or business name, business address, and email. NOTE: If you already own a respirator and want to bring it to verify proper fit, include the manufacturer and model number/type on your RSVP sign-up.

RSVP deadline March 1, 2016

You must be a member to sign up. If you are not currently a WCG member but would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity, join or renew today on our website at: https://washingtonconservationguild.org/membership/”

The cost of this test fit is $5, which will be collected at the lecture.
