Community Partners Projects

Community Partners Projects are pro-bono work days for which WCG members volunteer their conservation expertise at a particular historic site. They are generally conducted in a single day, although the preparation and follow-up require additional time. See Community Partners Projects for more information.

Public lectures, school visits, etc.

Our members are passionate about conservation, and the preservation of material culture. We have many members, who are happy to share this with your group, whether it is members of a small museum/historical society, a community group, or a school. Our talks can include information about specific conservation treatments, preventive conservation, community efforts to preserve important objects, and what you can do to preserve your own artifacts.

We’ve talked about conservation not only in area classrooms but also at larger events such as the Fairfax Public Library Preservation Week; National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Heritage week; the Treasured Heirloom Event sponsored by the Historical Society of Frederick County; Maryland Day at the St. Clement’s Island Museum; the Big Build (formerly the Festival of the Building Arts) at the National Building Museum; and the bi-centennial celebration at the Historic Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC.

Feel free to email us if you have an audience (be it kindergarteners, seniors, or anyone in between); we have members who love to talk about what we do.
