In conjunction with the 2015 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, which features the country of Peru, the Smithsonian Institution’s Intangible Cultural Heritage initiative cordially invites you to attend an informal conversation about cultural diplomacy with Ambassador Brian Nichols (USA) and Ambassador Luis Miguel Castilla (Peru).
The conversation aims to explore the political and diplomatic dimensions of cultural heritage engagement in Peru and beyond. To encourage an open exchange of ideas, this event will be informal and off the record.
After a short period of facilitated conversation between the ambassadors, we will open the conversation up to include dialogue with all event attendees. Michael Mason, director of the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, and Meredith Holmgren, manager of the Intangible Cultural Heritage project, will facilitate the discussion. Coffee, fruit, and pastries will be provided.
This event has strict capacity limitations. Please send your RSVP to Anne Pedersen (PedersenA@si.edu) as soon as possible.
Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Smithsonian is generously supported by the Smithsonian’s Grand Challenges Consortia. For more information, please visit: www.folklife.si.edu/ich
