The legendary Polynesian voyaging canoes Hokule‘a and Hikianalia are sailing across Earth’s oceans to join and grow the global movement toward a more sustainable world. Using traditional wayfinding navigation, the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage has been hailed as an international model for cultural revitalization and education.
During the Hokule’a’s port in Washington, D.C., captain and senior navigator Kalepa Baybayan will present about the Polynesian Voyaging Society at the Smithsonian on May 26, 12:30-1:30pm. The institution additionally celebrates the worldwide voyage with a film screening (May 27) and the “Malama Honua: Hokule’a Worldwide Voyage Celebration” at the National Museum of the American Indian (May 28-29).
