Take WCG’s Quick Survey on Outreach Opportunities

The Guild would like to offer a program at several of the Fairfax County Libraries during Preservation Week, 2020.  Our deadline to submit a proposal is tight: we need to submit it to the Fairfax County Library Outreach Coordinator before August 12th if we want to be included on the agenda for the county’s outreach activities.

Before we submit, we would like feedback from the membership. Here is a quick survey with only four questions.

Please take a look and fill it out as soon as you can so we can craft a proposal that offers options for programs.

Preservation Week is held yearly in April.  In 2020, it is scheduled for April 26th – May 2nd.  According to ALA, Preservation Week was created in 2010 because some 630 million items in collecting institutions require immediate attention and care. Eighty percent of these institutions have no paid staff assigned to collections care and 22 percent have no collections care personnel at all.

The Fairfax County Library system has 23 branches spread throughout Fairfax County.  We can offer a program concurrently at all twenty-three branches, at eight of the larger regional branches, or just a few.  Please take a few minutes to answer a survey about this proposed event.  If enough Guild members participate, we could offer a program at multiple branches.

This proposed event it would be good PR for the Guild and for conservation.  There are several ways our program can be advertised.  Fairfax County library system advertises and disseminates information about programs in several ways:

1. System-wide announcement on the Fairfax County Public Library website
2. Flyers at the individual branches
3. Announcement boards outside the libraries near the street closer to the date of the program
4. Fairfax County has its own TV channel (16). The WCG program can be videotaped and aired on local cable.
