Call for WCG Outreach Volunteers

Volunteer opportunity!

The Outreach and Communications Committee is looking for three new members. Would you like to volunteer—or know someone who would be perfect for the job?!

None of these positions require you to come to meetings (although we always like to see you). We have a summer board meeting in July, and we would love to have volunteers on board by then to be able to participate in planning for the new year.

Social Media Team Member: The volunteer would be part of our new team that works to plan and coordinate campaigns to reach our members and interested public regarding WCG news and upcoming events. While all team members can post to all our social media accounts, there are leads for each account. We need someone to be in charge of writing and posting to our Facebook page.

Community Partnership Project Coordinator: WCG continues to organize these outreach events to help local underfunded museums. For 2021, we already have a partner institution, the African American Civil War Museum. Katie Mullen, our coordinator for this year as well as WCG Website Admin, has already done a lot of the organization for the program as we did a smaller pilot project with AACWM this year. She needs help with working out out the details of the project and writing the grant application. We hope any volunteer will continue on to work on the 2022 project.

Volunteer Task Force and Outreach Coordinator: Because we are working to increase the number of outreach events WCG hosts, we have created a new position on the committee to help recruit volunteers. This work can occur both online (working with our website and social media team) and in person at meetings (when we are finally allowed to meet in person!). This is a great position because you get to meet WCG members you might not otherwise. Our member volunteers make WCG a stronger, more vibrant organization and strengthens our bonds with each other.
