Please join us for our November Intern/Fellow Meeting on Wednesday, November 18th, 2020.

6:00 – 7:00 PM ET. There will also be a casual “meet and greet” starting at 5:45 PM. This event is hosted by the Washington Conservation Guild’s Intern/Fellow Committee.

Our annual Career Day features a panel of conservators or other professionals in related disciplines at different stages of their careers. Each panelist will give a brief introduction to their journey in cultural heritage work and what their current job entails. Then, there will be a moderated discussion and attendees will get a chance to ask questions.

This year’s panelists are Melissa King, Caitlin Mahony, and Gwen Manthey.

Melissa King is currently the Samuel H. Kress Fellow in preventive conservation at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and the Museum Conservation Institute. She is also a 2020 graduate of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation where she specialized in preventive conservation.

Caitlin Mahony is an Objects Conservator at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). She received her MA in conservation from the UCLA/Getty Master’s Program in the Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Materials and a BA in anthropology from Skidmore College. She has worked previously at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as the assistant conservator for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas and as a conservation intern and fellow at The American Museum of Natural History.

Gwen Manthey is Paintings Conservator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Previous experiences include the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Chrysler Museum of Art, and the Walters Art Museum, along with her private practice. Her research focuses on technical imaging and analysis, 18th through early 20th century artist and materials, practical treatment, and emergency response.
