FREE Virtual Professional Development Seminar

The 6th Annual Seminar will again be hosted by the Washington Conservation Guild, the American Industrial Hygiene Association Potomac Section, and the Smithsonian Institution’s Lunder Conservation Center, National Collections Program, and Office of Safety, Health, and Environmental Management.

Participants will hear collaborative presentations by OEHS and Collection Care professionals, with the theme of Control of Health and Safety Hazards in Museums, Libraries, Historic Sites, and Conservation Treatment.

Highlights include:
• Panel on: Improving visual literacy skills to improve working safely.
• Presentations on: Safe exhibit installation and visitor access; ergonomic challenges in conservation work; creating safe Covid-19 digitization practices for people and material culture; fire retardant coatings best suited to cultural heritage.
• Collection Based Hazard Management studies: Comprehensive hazardous materials team policies, guidelines, and regulatory/licensed training; residual DDT, arsenic, other pesticides in archival/rare book collections; tin-mercury exposure assessment.
• Virtual museum exhibits, including those related to worker health and safety.
