OVERVIEW

Museum Directors manage the conservation, preservation, documentation, exhibition, and accessibility of a museum. They oversee acquisitions to the museum collection, manage the museum’s finances and budget, foster relationships with University staff and community members, and supervise the museum’s professional staff. They raise funds and organize donor events, research and plan exhibitions, and plan and direct museum programs.

  • Oversee the conservation and display of permanent and loaned collections and pursue external funding sources.
  • Foster and enhance an environment in which the University community and the general public can study and learn from works of art.
  • Enhance and create programs that will engage the entire academic enterprise, providing a compelling public arts program.
  • Plan operational budgets by analyzing exhibition and program needs and projected revenue and expenses.
  • Direct employee resources and programs for the museum, including training opportunities, award programs, special events and other initiatives as needed.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master’s degree in art history.
Experience: Seven years museum management experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licensure: None.
