Contract Position: Conservation Technician, NMAAC

The Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), Office of Collections Management, Conservation department is seeking conservation technician services to assist with exhibition, conservation, clerical and custodial functions within the conservation lab and to support the conservation team with the care and maintenance of the museum collections on exhibit and in storage.  All work must be done onsite in the conservation lab at the NMAAHC collections storage facility in Landover, Maryland or downtown, as required, at the museum location in Washington DC. The Contractor is not an employee of the Smithsonian.

The Contractor will participate in conservation lab activities for no less than 1700 hours and up to no more than 1940 hours from October 15, 2023 through October 14, 2024. The Contractor will offer professional, conservation technician services to provide support within the lab and assist the conservators with their projects. The contract has option periods to extend the contract up to four years depending on resources and museum needs.

Contractors are required to be enrolled in the System for Award Management and that can take some time. Allow ample time if you are new to government contracting.
