Alice Craigie
Alice Craigie is the Modern Painting Fellow 2022-2024 at The National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. She completed her Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings at The Courtauld Institute of Art in 2019. Since graduating, Alice has worked at Julia Nagle Conservation, London’s foremost modern and contemporary conservation studio, and Tate Gallery, London as an Assistant Conservator. During her fellowship at the NGA, she undertakes practical conservation treatments, alongside a revised technical study of the twelve Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) paintings that form part of the National Gallery’s Chester Dale Collection.
Vu Do
Vu Do is a Fulbright Graduate Fellow in conservation at SUNY Buffalo State University. Originally from Vietnam, he worked as an art educator, artist, and curator before transitioning to conservation. He holds a BFA in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Vu Do’s responsibilities include the discovery, conservation, and curation of ‘The Hidden Treasure Collection’ by Phan Ke An, a renowned Vietnamese painter of the 20th century. He possesses a keen interest in the study of the manufacture and conservation of East Asian lacquer artifacts. Upon completing his graduate studies, he aspires to advance conservation efforts in Vietnam with the goal of establishing the first interdisciplinary conservation training program in the country. Vu has interned at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, Painting Conservation Department at National Gallery of Art. Vu will spend his third year at the Department of Objects Conservation at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
Sarah Fong
Sarah Fong is a fourth year undergraduate at the University of Virginia pursuing a BS in Chemistry with biochemistry specialization. Her professional interests are in conservation science and sustainability policy. She has previously performed research in the cultural heritage field as a preservation science intern with the Preservation Research and Testing Division at the Library of Congress in summer 2023 and as an intern with the Scientific Research department at the National Gallery of Art in summer 2024. She is currently searching for PhD programs to conduct scientific research in collaboration with conservators in museums.
Charlotte Starnes
Charlotte is currently earning her MA in Conservation of Art and Cultural Heritage alongside an MS in Conservation Science and Imaging from SUNY Buffalo State University, where she is a Mellon Fellow in Library and Archive Conservation Education. She graduated from Florida State University with a BA in Art History and holds a BA in International Relations & Global Affairs from Eckerd College. Prior conservation experience includes a pre-program internship in paper conservation at the Georgia Archives and working in Special Collections at Florida State University. She also was the 2023 Willman Spawn Paper Conservation Intern at the American Philosophical Society and will be spending her 3rd year as a conservation intern at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
