Please come to the next meeting of the Washington Conservation Guild at The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore on Thursday October 1. Diane Fullick will be discussing her work with a MICA collection of plasters.

In 1881, a large collection of plaster casts was purchased from studios in Paris, London and Rome for the newly built Gallery of Art at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Due to an expansion of the music conservatory, the cast collection, much diminished, was transferred to the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1924 for use in the classrooms. In 2008, conservation of these plaster casts began and remains ongoing. This talk will discuss the history and conservation of this group of plaster casts as well as the changing bias towards plaster casts.

The Main Building is a brief walk from Baltimore Penn Station. Trains departing Union Station at 3:23 and 4:10 will arrive in Baltimore at 4:26 and 5:05. Exit the station, and cross Charles Street. Walk two blocks west on Oliver Street. Veer right onto Mt. Royal Ave. Cross the Light Rail tracks and the building is on your right. There is a return train to DC at 7:35. Grab a slice of Two Boots Pizza for dinner. It’s delicious. The Mount Royal Light Rail station is also nearby.
