FREE Virtual Professional Development Seminar:
Thursday, 29 October 2020 (1:00 – 5:00 pm ET) and Friday, 30 October 2020 (1:00 – 5:00 pm ET)
The 5th Annual Seminar will again be hosted by the Washington Conservation Guild, Potomac Section American Industrial Hygiene Association, Lunder Conservation Center, Smithsonian National Collections Program, and Smithsonian Institution Office of Safety, Health and Environmental Management.
Participants will hear collaborative presentations by OEHS and Collection Care professionals, with the theme of Control of Health and Safety Hazards in Museums, Libraries, Historic Sites, and Conservation Treatment.
Highlights include:
- Panels on Covid-19 challenges: Ongoing work in a closed museum; Adapting ASHRAE ventilation guidelines; and Decontamination techniques for collection environments.
- Presentations on: Safely dealing with mold and pest challenges in collections care; Work-safe mass digitization; Ethical considerations in 9/11 object treatments; Face covering guidance; and Hazards in collections.
- Virtual museum and art gallery tours, including exhibits related to worker health and safety.
- Social networking break-out rooms at the end of each day.
