Contract Position: Objects Conservator, National Portrait Gallery

Please find below two RFQs for a contract for an objects conservator. Quote deadline is 5pm EDT, April 27, 2023.  


Project Description:

National Portrait Gallery: Technical non-personal art conservation services in Objects Conservation

The Contractor shall perform conservation services in support of NPG’s conservation staff and Director of Curatorial Affairs. The Contractor will survey the permanent collection (approximately 500 objects), examine, and document the condition of the works in the permanent collection and pending acquisitions and treat as needed. Conservation treatments for sculptural artwork range from minor to major treatments. The Contractor will also verify that artwork is stable for exhibitions, loans, or storage. Objects range in size from small to oversized works.

The Contractor will regularly consult with Im Chan, Interim Head of Conservation, to review priority of works to be assessed and treated and to notify Ms. Chan of issues, such as status of ongoing treatments that affect project progress.

Work Hours:

The Contractor’s work schedule will be determined upon mutual agreement, based upon the satisfactory performance of duties and other extenuating office setting circumstances, as determined appropriate by the COTR.

Period of Performance:

All work on this contract shall begin in May 2023 and will be completed no later than December 31, 2023. NTE 1,000 hours.
