Description
The Photograph Conservation Technician contract shall commence October 7, 2024, and end October 6th, 2025, with the option to extend the contract based on contractor performance.
The technician participates fully in the daily operations of the photograph conservation laboratory, including but not limited to assisting with the examination, condition reporting, and selected treatment of works of art; providing technical support by taking digital images; assisting with the organization of conservation documentation; following existing safety protocols and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment.
This person would be a sub-contractor through our company Cross Museum Services with an hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.

Requirements
The Photograph Conservation Technician shall have experience providing support for conservation or similar activities through prior internship(s), volunteer position(s), or employment in a conservation laboratory or related setting.
The Photograph Conservation Technician shall have a familiarity with photographic processes, technology, and photographic objects.
The Photograph Conservation Technician shall have experience with databases, various imaging software, digital cameras, and collection management protocols.
Duties include the following:
- Completes photo documentation for, before, during, and after treatment phases. Organizes digital images and metadata in archival repositories.
- Completes and files written treatment documentation in archival repositories.
- Monitors lab supplies and equipment and prepares and processes purchase requests.
- Coordinates and assists with moving artworks to and from the photograph conservation laboratory.
- Maintains and updates internal checklists for tracking exhibition and loan treatments and analysis.
- Assists with condition examinations of photographs for acquisition, exhibition, and loan.
- Assists with rehousing and collections maintenance projects.
- Assists with minor conservation treatments under the supervision of photograph conservators.
- Assists with preparation of samples for research and testing projects, as well as for educational workshops on the history of photography.
