Situated on over 300 acres of meadows and woodlands, the museum opened in 2006, expanded in 2018, and offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its world-class collection of more than 2,000 works by 280 contemporary artists. Position Overview
The internship will provide the opportunity to work with Glenstone’s superlative collection of post-World War II artworks. Projects will be tailored to the specialty and interests of the successful candidate. Example projects could include the treatment of a mixed media sculpture, the preservation of time-based media works, or research into the removal of marks from weathering steel sculptures. The intern will contribute to the Museum’s preventive conservation activities, outdoor sculpture cleaning, and exhibition installation. Glenstone’s conservation program is collaborative in nature. As such, there are often occasions to work with other conservators, museum professionals, galleries, artists, and their studios or foundations.
Required Skills & Expertise
Candidates should be currently enrolled in a recognized conservation training program or have equivalent training. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following areas:
- preventive conservation
- objects/sculpture
- time-based media
- modern and contemporary art
Salary & Benefits
The internship includes a stipend of $23.50/hour. The internship will be in the summer of 2025 and run for a minimum of 10 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks. Glenstone is offering optional housing as a taxable benefit for this internship.
