Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Conservation Technician, you will:
- Perform conservation treatment of moderate to high complexity on archival records that are unique and of moderate to high value. Incumbent also develops creative solutions for housing archival records in varying condition and format.
- Perform treatment on groups of archival records and develops safe and efficient mechanisms for handling multiple items.
- Perform a variety of conservation treatments, including dry cleaning, mending with special paper or heat-set tissue, guarding, lining, humidification and flattening, washing, deacidification, encapsulation, and the creation of custom housings.
- Handle archival records and performs all conservation treatment in conformance with procedures and standards established by the supervisory conservator.
